Pipeline & Subsea
Studies
EPCONSULT has all-round industry expertise in
the engineering, risk assessment and economics associated with onshore
and offshore pipelines and subsea engineering development projects.
As the pipeline industry continue to stretch the technology boundary
into harsher project environments, longer onshore developments,
deeper offshore developments, increasing challenging fluids and
increasingly politically instable cross-border frontiers, EPCONSULT
is specialized at providing expert advice and engineering studies
for our clients.
Intelligent Engineering
Offshore Pipelines and Risers
EPCONSULT has vast experience in large scale pipeline
engineering projects. We are one of the few consultancies that have
the full appreciation of all the aspects involved in selecting and
executing a successful offshore pipeline project. We have worked
on some of the most challenging pipeline projects in the world such
as Shell Malampaya in the Philippines, BP Mardi Gras Transportation
Project in the Gulf of Mexico, Medgaz in the Mediterranean and Dolphin
in the Gulf of Arabia.
EPCONSULT is specialist at all aspects associated
with pipeline and riser engineering, that involves but is not limited
to:
 |
Pipeline feasibility studies and conceptual development
for new projects including liaison with authorities |
 |
Advice and consultancy on pipeline route selection and
dealings with third parties and developing base reconnaissance
surveys with specialist survey companies |
 |
Assessment of health, safety and environmental (HSE) project
requirements and execution of studies to assess and minimize
the environmental impact (EIS, EIA) associated with the project |
 |
Material selection for linepipe including selection of
standard carbon steel linepipe, exotic materials CRA lined
or clad pipe of e.g. Inconel, Incoloy, etc. |
 |
Mechanical design including stress-strain and fatigue analysis
associated with pipelines and risers. This involves analysis
of free spans, loads due to seismic ground shaking, mass gravity
flows and turbidity current loadings, fault crossings, lateral
and upheaval buckling, etc. Pipeline installation analysis,
design of buckle arrestors and conducting of wall thickness
optimization studies. It also involves the stress analysis
and fatigue analysis (VIV etc.) of steel catenary risers (SCR),
flexible risers, top tension risers and rigid risers. |
 |
Corrosion assessment of various types of corrosion processes
and definition of anti-corrosion design against internal as
well as external corrosion |
 |
Process and flow assurance for pipeline systems including
the analysis of best internal flow coatings is also within
our specialist services |
 |
Risk assessment and Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) is
one of our specialist offerings |
 |
Business risk assessment including cross-border risk aversion
strategy advice |
 |
Pre-commissioning and commissioning services including
optimization of leak and strength tests, pipeline drying,
tie-in studies, water disposal, etc. |
 |
Pipeline integrity management as presented in Asset Integrity
Management |
Onshore Pipelines
Onshore pipeline projects are typically large and critical investments
for the client, hence it is crucial to establish a sound foundation
and review optional conceptual developments before embarking on
heavy man-hour required engineering design.
EPCONSULT is expert in providing services to onshore
pipeline projects including:
 |
Pipeline feasibility studies and conceptual development
for new projects |
 |
Advice and consultancy on route selection and dealings
with authorities and local regulatory requirements |
 |
Assessment of health, safety and environmental (HSE) project
requirements and execution of studies to e.g. assess and minimize
the environmental impacts (EIS, EIA) associated with the project |
 |
Pipeline project planning and client support to successful
execution of projects |
 |
Mechanical design of pipelines, including materials selection
of standard carbon steel pipelines or exotic materials CRA
lined or clad pipe of e.g. Inconel, Incoloy, etc. Stress analysis
including wall thickness, buckling analysis and other finite
element analyses are also performed |
 |
Corrosion assessment of various types of corrosion processes
and definition of anti-corrosion design against internal as
well as external corrosion |
 |
Process and flow assurance of for pipeline systems is also
within our specialist services |
 |
Risk assessment and Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) is
one of our specialist offerings |
 |
Business risk assessment including cross-border risk aversion
strategy advice |
 |
Pipeline integrity management as presented in Asset Integrity
Management |
At the early stage of the BP BTC Pipeline project EPCONSULT
worked with J P Kenny and provided input to a combined Technical
and Financial analysis, screening optional pipeline construction
strategies.
Subsea Engineering Studies
EPCONSULT is expert in subsea engineering projects.
We typically get involved at the early stage of field development
planning.
For Total E&P we carried out conceptual design of a seabed
flowline system connecting drilling centre manifolds to the FPSO
for the Usan OPL-222 development project off Nigeria.
We carried out specialist studies for the Shell Goldeneye tie-back
project at the conceptual engineering stage and we supported Statoil's
Kristin Project with HP/HT Subsea HIPPS analyses.
EPCONSULT has developed a Tie-Back Methodology
Work Practice. The work practice is in the form of a generalized
tie-back project and is an efficient guideline and checklist that
ensures that clients get value for money and that time is spent
intelligently.
Our services in subsea engineering studies comprise:
 |
Field layout planning and optimization |
 |
Well head and Xmas tree selection and planning |
 |
Templates and manifolds layout and design |
 |
Flowlines selection and optimization including engineering,
risk and costs optimization taking account for materials selection,
isolation, pipe-in-pipe solutions, protection, bundle selection
etc. |
 |
Subsea controls strategy, integration with existing systems,
platform instrumentation integration, umbilical selection,
SSIV, HIPPS, pressure and flow control valves, etc. |
 |
Transient process and flow assurance studies |
